We've been here for 40 years.

40 years ago, in 1981, life was tough for families, Australia was in a downturn heading towards the 1982-83 recession, a recession that hit Newcastle particularly hard.

Many families found themselves under enormous pressure, which unfortunately left many children in dire circumstances. In response to this need a group of concerned locals opened The Lake Macquarie Youth Refuge, known as ‘Allambi House’.

Allambi Care milestones over the years

A lot has happened in 40 years, including several name changes - Allambi Youth Services Inc. between 2001-2015 and since then, Allambi Care.

Today, Allambi Care has grown into an organisation that serves individuals, families, communities and government agencies to care for the most vulnerable people in our society. Our services are flexible and characterised by best practice, and we continue to be committed to empowering people to reach their full potential.
Check out Candid Conversations 2.0. Our first episode takes a look back into Allambi Care's history. Tune in for some great discussion with panel members, Simon Walsh, Peter Walsh and Janet Vickers.

We have learnt and grown in the past 40 years, and continue to find innovative ways to support children and families to deal with the pressures of life today.
